As Vans winds down its 30th anniversary year of the iconic Half Cab skate shoe, the storied California-based brand has released an unexpected collaboration with East Coast boot maker Timberland. With two silhouettes in three deeply rooted colorways, the Vans x Timberland collab is a small but exciting capsule collection offering a unique and stylish nod to both skateboarding and hiking.
At the center of the collection is an all-new, hybrid style dubbed the Vans Skateboarding x Timberland Half Cab Hiker ($160). Part skate shoe, part hiking boot—and odd combination that surprisingly works quite well—the Half Cab Hiker features a familiar upper of canvas and leather set atop a rugged, lugged outsole borrowed from Timberland’s Euro Hiker, originally released in 1988. Colorways include Wheat and Chocolate/Olive (aka "beef & broccoli"), both synonymous with the Timberland brand.
And because you can't collab with Vans without at least one item getting the checker treatment, and you can't collab with Timberland without including a big ass boot, the Vans x Timberland capsule also includes a co-branded Vans x Timberland 6" Waterproof Boot ($230). This sturdy silhouette fit for pretty much any environment and style comes in any color you want, as long as it's black.
Though the two brands share a parent in VF Corp, the collaboration remains a pleasant surprise and a fun way to wrap up the year. Limited numbers exist so don't sleep on this one—both styles are officially available as of 12/20/22 from Vans and Timberland direct.
