Since the invention of the very first Leatherman in 1983, the look and feel of the multi-tool has grown to become rightfully iconic: weighty, plier-centric, with knives, screwdrivers, and other tools splaying out of the handles. And silver, always silver. Sure, Leatherman has experimented with color some, but leave it to Colorado's own Topo Designs to really shake things up—case in point: the all-new and ever-colorful Leatherman x Topo Designs limited-edition Skeletool.
Topo is known for its vibrant outdoorsy apparel and gear, and with this super limited-edition Skeletool we see Topo's signature primary color combo put to good use. The Skeletool is a pared-down Leatherman multitool that features just seven implements (Leatherman's classic Wave has 18 in comparison) including pliers, a partially serrated knife, and a screwdriver. Designed with nothing but the essentials for general outdoorsy use, the pared down tool is just 10 centimeters long and weighs just 1.4 ounces as a result.
That touch of minimalism-by-design that Leatherman endowed the Skeletool with is in keeping with Topo Designs, whose clothing and backpacks tend to advocate practicality without overloading on features. The tool is also ideal for both outdoor and everyday use thanks to its small size, and the integrated carabiner, which makes it easy to secure to a belt loop or backpack strap. That didn't stop Topo from also creating a custom zippered sheath for the collab Skeletool, which also comes with a carabiner.
The two companies only made 2,500 of these, and given that both brands have large cult followings, they're guaranteed to go fast.
