Everyone owns a down jacket or two. And for years we've been singing the praise of down pants. So it's high time that same quilted construction found its way to footwear. After all, both down insulation and the synthetic stuff that mimics it are incredibly lightweight, warm, and packable. So why wouldn't it make a good camp shoe?
Early iterations for mountaineering were (and continue to be) oversized and super-stuffed, with warmth being the ultimate goal.
