Everyone owns a down jacket or two. And for years we've been singing the praise of down pants. So it's high time that same quilted construction found its way to footwear. After all, both down insulation and the synthetic stuff that mimics it are incredibly lightweight, warm, and packable. So why wouldn't it make a good camp shoe?
Early iterations for mountaineering were (and continue to be) oversized and super-stuffed, with warmth being the ultimate goal. But there's potential for a casual, everyday iteration of such a shoe (or is it a slipper?), as proven by Teva and its much-loved Ember Moc. Now, the company has re-released the outdoorsy favorite as the ReEMBER, improved with sustainable materials and a ton of stylish new colorways.
The ReEMBER is almost unmistakable from its predecessor—it has an insulated ripstop upper, a collapsible heel, and a rubber outsole, the combination of which makes it a true indoor-outdoor slipper (there's also a mid-height version for those looking to really maximize cozy levels).
The difference between old and new comes via the addition of lots of recycled materials: its EVA midsole is 50% recycled, its outsole is 50-percent recycled, its heel is 50% recycled, and the rest of its upper is 100% recycled. What's more, Teva expanded the color palette to include a dozen or so fresh colors and funky multi-tone options in addition to the monochromatic hues that have characterized the Ember collection to date.
It might be the perfect camp shoe, but nobody'd fault you for rocking the ReEMBER around the house this fall once the camping gear is all packed away.
