With gas prices in the clouds, it'd make sense if you found yourself considering alternative means of getting around. E-bikes have made their argument in the matter for years—especially if you live in town—and REI might've just helped them earn the last word with its brand new Co-op Cycles Generation e electric bikes.
There are two different models to choose from—the e1.1 and the e1.2—and REI members get first dibs until September 1st.
REI designed both of the new battery-powered bikes to be approachable and to fit the needs of new or seasoned riders. The e1.1 and e1.2 both feature rear racks, front and rear lights as well as memory foam saddles to ensure comfort throughout your commute (or joy ride). Whether you're in work clothes or workout gear, these bikes are designed for utility, and a step-through frame lets riders hop on and hop off with ease. The e-bikes also come stock with 20-inch wheels and wide 2.4-inch tires for a one-size-fits-most build.
The differences between the two models? The e1.2 has a 48v battery pack vs the 36v on the e1.1 to take you a little further. The e1.2 also comes with an additional front rack. Both weigh in at 54 pounds, but the e1.1 has an SR Suntour suspension fork while the e.1.2 has a cargo-capable rigid fork.
At $1,499 and $1,899, both of the Generation e bikes are affordable compared to many other e-bikes, but also come with REI’s special Coast to Coast Support. Members can stop in any of the 170 REI bike shops across the country and receive free flat fixes, two years of total adjustments, early access to gear releases and 20% off shop services, making it easier than ever to cruise around town worry free (non-members get some but not all of these perks).
Whether commuting, running errands, or just cycling for the heck of it, the Generation e electric bikes can take you up to 40 miles on a full battery (50 miles for the e 1.2), have five modes of electric assist, and come in a variety of bright and subtle colors.
