Just like us, our favorite brands grow and change, and thus, check-ins are in order from time to time. Here we take a look at Finnish cabin manufacturer Pluspuu, a company that first hit our radar a handful of years ago.
Ranging from prefab studio-sized cabins and one-room saunas to straight-up villas, the company stresses quality craftsmanship and lux remote living throughout all their models. In all, the innovative manufacturer now offers 14 high-quality log cabin and sauna kits starting at just $18,000 USD.
Most recently, the studio created an optional roof terrace add-on to their line-up. Varying in size depending on the base structure's design and size, the terrace can be adapted to fit most Pluspuu models—see it best pictured on their Nauvo and Pellinki cabins. Below the roof deck, a summer kitchen and outdoor lounge space offer up additional hang-out spots for all-season outdoor living.
The natural light-filled Iniö cabin and Luoto Sauna are two standouts we continue to be most drawn to. Iniö features floor-to-ceiling windows, high ceilings, and a modest terrace.
Luoto Sauna is equally modest in square footage, and available in seven different layouts, each incorporating a single room for living quarters, a covered outdoor walkway, and a sauna with wood burning stove.
Traditional log cabins look great and can last forever, but they can also creak and settle in ways that, if not handled properly, can greatly reduce their longevity.
To counter this Pluspuu works exclusively with the latest Finnish log construction technologies—like non-settling lamellas logs and cross-laminated timber (CLT) panels— to create long-lasting structures in spruce and pine. The use of non-settling logs allows for more modern architectural solutions, like massive windows and low-angle corners.
With the continuing rise of prefab architecture and cabin kits in popularity Pluspuu is exploring wider availability, with current markets extending across North America and Europe.
We look forward to what the studio brings next.
