Located in the farthest northeast corner of the US and spread across an expansive cluster of craggy, pine-covered coastal islands, Acadia in Maine is New England's only national park. At just 49,000 acres it's small compared to behemoths like Yellowstone and the Great Smoky Mountains, but with 60 miles of coastline, 150 miles of hiking trails, cobblestone beaches, and opportunities for rock climbing, swimming, fishing, sea kayaking, canoeing, cycling, and so much more, the park holds its own as one of the top 10 most visited in the country.
It's no wonder that Parks Project, the company dedicated to celebrating and protecting America's national parks (to date Parks Project has contributed over $2,500,000 to initiatives that restore habitats in parklands), chose Acadia for its most recent apparel collection.
Included in the new capsule is a range of characteristically playful apparel pieces, including fleeces (our top pick), long-sleeve crews, hats, and more. The design of each item takes direct inspiration from the Maine scenery—the fleece pullover, fanny pack, and bucket hat for example feature an abstract black and white wave print, while the long sleeves highlight local flora and fauna, like the puffin (the Maine islands are the only place in the US where Atlantic Puffins nest) and, of course, lobster.
If you haven't been to Acadia, the collection might be enough to inspire a trip. And if so, Parks Project accompanied the new apparel with succinct and free online guides on where to stay while you're there and what to do while visiting Acadia. One highlight: be among the first in the country to see the sunrise from the top of the granite dome that is Cadillac Mountain, then head down to Sand Beach for a plunge in the icy Atlantic (just don't forget to bring your fleece!).
