Don’t let the on-trend graphic tees and limited-edition collaborations fool you, Parks Project is committed to not only celebrating America’s national parks in style, but to protecting them too. Through community meetups and volunteer cleanups—not to mention with a portion of profits—the Los Angeles-based brand has contributed $2,500,000 to help fund vital projects in national parks around the US since 2014. Their latest effort? A new hardcover book celebrating all 63 national parks across 367 bright, colorful pages.
Published by Gestalten, The Parklands: Trails and Secrets from the National Parks of the United States is the perfect coffee table companion for providing inspiration for upcoming adventures and daily escape. It’s the type of book that'll make you want to sell your things, move into a camper van, and go on a cross country road trip (if you already did that in 2020, The Parklands is a great resource for where to visit next).
Photos, facts, illustrations, and anecdotes give new life to national parks we may think we know well already. And a special focus on low-impact outdoor adventure travel, sustainability, and Leave No Trace ethics aims to not only educate readers on traveling and sightseeing, but also on how to do it responsibly to preserve both wildlife and cultural history. This is part of the purpose of the national parks, after all.
Even as underfunding, overcrowding, and climate change continue to threaten our national parks, The Parklands both reveals how to enjoy these treasured public spaces sustainably and reminds readers that it's our responsibility to contribute to the preservation of our national parks so that they remain places we can all enjoy forever—in person or on the page.
To date, Parks Project has contributed over $2,500,000 to initiatives that restore habitats in parklands. Support for The Parklands book supports their mission to leave it better than we found it.
