As longtime outdoor gear thrifters and lifelong children of Mother Nature, we here at Field Mag HQ always applaud when a classic brand digs into the archives for inspiration. And Mountain Hardwear's new Reissue collection is a fine example of when crate digging goes right. Celebrating the California outdoor apparel and gear brand's 30th anniversary, the Reissue capsule pulls outerwear and accessories from its 1993 catalog into 2023.
Improving on the nostalgic designs with the lightweight, waterproof and often recycled materials—and without changing the look—iconic pieces by the brand’s original designer and founder Ingrid Harshbarger are born anew. And in supremely good colorways, we might add.
The Mountain Hardwear Reissue Collection is available as of 2 October 2023, with three unisex outerwear pieces at the core: the Exposure Gore-Tex Parka Reissue, Subzero Down Jacket Reissue, and Windstopper Tech Jacket Reissue.
Although the limited-edition capsule also includes a few throwback graphic t-shirts, sweatshirts, and accessories, we’re primarily interested in the hero pieces, which we've been lucky enough to test first hand ahead of the collection's launch. Of the lot, the Exposure Gore-Tex Parka Reissue ($400) is certainly the most heavy duty. A remake of the brand’s first technical, premium mountaineering shell, made with lightweight Gore-Tex ePE membrane, the updated style is both lighter and more waterproof than its predecessor. Sturdy as hell with bold branding and significant storm coverage from every angle, this will be one piece to keep on hand for future powder days on the ski hill and hurricanes in the city.
Covering the quintessential 90’s style down coat, the Subzero Down Jacket Reissue ($350) wraps its excellent teal-colored ultralight recycled Pertex ripstop shell fabric around pockets of 650-fill RDS-certified down for superior warmth and sustainability. Durable material across the yoke and outer arms adds additional protection against backpack strap abrasion and of course, rain and snow.
In the fleece department, the legendary Windstopper Tech Jacket Reissue ($275) revives the brand’s industry first–a warm, and soft fleece jacket that was able to keep out heat-robbing breezes made possible through collaborative innovation with Gore-Tex.
Be sure to check out these bright and weatherproof limited-edition outerwear pieces with their accompanying graphic apparel and accessories at Mountain Hardwear to live out the dream of the 1990’s in style.
