If you’re a regular around here, you know we’re pretty obsessed with film photography. But as much as we love cranking out rolls of film, the bulk of the images we create are shot and developed onto the digital camera roll found on our phones. We're not alone in this, and online camera shop and snap-on smartphone lens brand Moment knows it. The company made a splash when it launched its first line of lenses, and today, Moment is announcing the launch of the new eight-piece T-Series lens collection.
The new line of mobile camera lenses consists of four cine lenses as well as telephoto, wide angle, fisheye, and macro focal length lenses designed to fit iPhone, Pixel, and Galaxy phones equipped with a Moment Case or a Universal Lens Mount. The interface is geared toward fast lens swaps and ease of use, just like a DSLR or mirrorless.
For wider-than-reality views, mobile shutterbugs have their pick from the Wide 18mm ($130) and Fisheye 14mm ($120), which provides a perspective that rivals the leading action cameras at the convenience of a quick add-on lens. (We love the idea of “death lens” capabilities without the bulk and expense of the VX1000s we grew up filming with.) For more subdued wide-angle views, the Wide 18mm will provide a perspective similar to an iPhone’s wide-angle lens, but without the heavy distortion that comes with it.
The Tele 58mm lens ($150) provides an ideal focal length for capturing portraits at a 2x optical zoom on a standard mobile lens and a 4x optical zoom when mounted on a telephoto. Meanwhile, mushroom hunters and admirers of wild flora will undoubtedly be able to make great use of the Macro 10x lens ($120), which can capture rich textures within a one-inch minimum focus distance.
The Anamorphic 1.33x & 1.55x lenses ($150) were made with vloggers and minimalist cinematographers in mind, optimized for 16:9 format with true black bars. A choice of blue flare or gold flare options in either zoom should suit even the most discerning director of mobile photography, who will likely want to grab both.
Moment’s new T-Series lenses and accessories are available today on the brand's website and compatible with the latest iPhone, Pixel, and Galaxy model phones (consult Moment’s compatibility chart before making a purchase).
