Japanese technical apparel brand Goldwin operates by the motto of "Immerse Yourself in Nature," a philosophy that's modified and manifested in the brand's latest fall/winter 2023 seasonal concept of "Flow: faster, wider, and deeper." Inspired by the spur-of-the-moment spirit of outdoor adventures, this new collection from Goldwin fuses the most advanced textile technology into apparel for hiking, skiing, running, and more, all made for flexibility and a seamless transition between nature and the city.
Goldwin's alpine heritage is clearly articulated in their Outdoor and Ski line. In the midst of a saturated market for shell jackets, their high-end GORE-TEX 3L Jacket ($1,000) stands out in a vibrant yellow colorway and is equipped with plenty of intentional, utilitarian details for skiers and snowboarders. Vents are deliberately placed on the collar to prevent eyewear from fogging, tab buttons can connect the jacket to ski pants to prevent them from sliding up, and Aerogel insulation is positioned in the chest pocket to protect mobile devices from the cold.
Another highlight in the ski line is the GORE-TEX Windstopper Down Parka ($1,200), which is crafted with Goldwin's original "3D Grid Down System" structure for higher heat-retaining effect for combined protection and warmth. The roomier silhouette was purposefully designed in mind of the other pieces so it can be layered over a shell as needed.
Bringing things out of harsh environments, Goldwin's Athletic pieces are perfect for everyday training. Here, PERTEX is frequently the material of choice due its lightweight, breathable qualities and ability to provide comfort and protection during unexpected conditions. The hooded Padded Warm Jacket ($450) has a removable section so wearers can adjust its warmth, and insulation is absent in the underarms where body heat gets trapped. Similarly, the matching pants ($330) place insulation selectively near the thighs for warmth, maximizing breathability.
For the more intense athletes, the recurring C3fit line—C3 stands for compression, conditioning, and comfort—returns with the Re-Optimum Series, designed specifically to help elite athletes perform at the highest level while also considering recovery. The Re-Optimum Sweatshirt ($150) and Sweatpants ($150) are constructed from a KODENSHI fabric that, according to Goldwin, helps maintain natural body temperature, aiding relaxation and sleep quality.
Rounding out the new season, Goldwin's Lifestyle line is anything but casual, combining technical innovations with urban cuts and fits. The Snow Range Down Coat ($1,300) is the ultimate all-in-one-jacket, bolstered by a two-layer GORE-TEX fabric and recycled down insulation held in place with gusseted quilt stitching for optimal heat retention. The two flap design over the double slide zipper helps block out the elements, and a brushed tricot lining in the pockets provides ultimate comfort. For a more modular piece that easily transitions between the city and the outdoors, the 3-way Act Middle Jacket ($840) has a removable insulated inner layer paired with a waterproof shell. To complement, the Fine Wale Corduroy Pants ($310) are the perfect everyday piece with a straight leg fit, pleated silhouette, and built-in waist fastener.
Goldwin's latest collection is a perfect showcase of what the company has long been known for: versatility, minimalist yet functional design, and innovation through use of high-performance and advanced textiles. There's something here for everyone, from beginners attempting their first local hike to elite athletes performing in the harshest conditions.
Some pieces from Goldwin's Fall/Winter 2023 collection are now available to purchase online and in retail stores, with more to come throughout the season.
