We’ve sung Eddie Bauer’s praises for creating the first quilted, down-filled garments many times over; would our favorite down pants and down jackets even exist without Eddie?! Recognizing the brand’s important contribution and classic style (originals are traded for unfathomable sums by diehard collectors), California-based menswear label Buck Mason has collaborated with PNW-based Eddie Bauer for a limited-edition collection of iconic pieces. The Buck Mason x Eddie Bauer collection of down jackets and coats, merino wool base layers, and a sizable patterned down quilt is now available in limited quantities.
The Skyliner Jacket ($275) was the one that started it all in 1940, and the 2023 iteration faithfully brings the diamond-quilted bomber jacket into the modern age with sustainable "Responsible Down Standard" 650-fill premium down sourced by Allied Feather + Down, a DWR-treated cotton-nylon face fabric, and a subtly contrasting ribbed collar and cuffs.
Heavier duty pieces include the matching Cascade Down ‘42 Flight Jacket ($450) and Flight Pants ($275) (insulated by the same responsible down fill on the Skyliner), whose original designs were designed under a military contract to keep airmen warm in conditions down to -70ºF and afloat for up to 24 hours, in the event of a crash over water. These stylish recreations may not meet their predecessor’s original contract specifications, but they’ll certainly keep you warm through the winter season ahead.
Dig into the rest of the Eddie Bauer x Buck Mason collection to discover additional outerwear pieces, merino base layers, and the jumbo-sized Cascade Down Barn Quilt ($325) ready for deployment on your next binge-watch campaign.
