We gotta admit, writing about Italian sportswear giant Diadora is not a thing we ever thought we’d do. Yet here we are. As it turns out, the brand most American’s associate with soccer actually originated as a mountaineering boot workshop in the Northeastern Italian town of Treviso 70 years ago.
To celebrate the age milestone and their heritage in general, Diadora has teamed with another Treviso-based brand—storied footwear maker Diemme—on a limited-edition boot, complete with handsome-as-heck alpine vibes and everything.
Dubbed the Tonale mod. 1948 (a reference to Diadora's founding date), the classic mountain boot is styled off Diemme’s timeless “Roccia vet” model, and inspired by original designs pulled from Diadora’s archives. The upper is cut from a single piece of full-grain sturdy leather, with the tongue, gusset, and inner made of super soft calfskin. Hardwearing hardware and a rebuildable Vibram sole round out the details. And of course, each is assembled by hand in Diemme’s storied factory.
The Diadora x Diemme boot is the first of many collaborations to be rolled out in 2018 to celebrate the 70th anniversary. So keep an eye out for more in the coming months.
