Brooklyn-based label d'emploi recently released the Checker Collection, a selection of canvas goods and bold houseware items. Full of miticously handcrafted totes of all sizes, zip pouches, colorful belts, and timeless T-Shirts, the collection features unexpected stars in its Checkered Stool and Green Thumb Deli Mat. Representing a shift in the brand's offerings, the drop comes after a two-year hiatus, but its signature quality, craftsmanship, and subtle playfulness remains-this time in a spunky checkered pattern seen throughout the collection.
With a vision of making for life's unexpected adventures, d'emploi's founder Kyle Mosholder focuses on crafting small-batch durable goods, made in-house with vintage hardware and materials sourced from across the United States. In years past, Mosholder has found interest in innovative workwear and enduring bags of all styles. Now, we're excited to see his one-man label venturing into household territory.
In sizes Big, Shop (a littler smaller), and Daily(smaller yet), the eye-catching Checkered Tote makes up the bulk of the collection. Made of an extremely sturdy 25-ounce heavyweight canvas, the bags are screen printed and hand-sewn, finished with 10-ounce leather and climbing-grade webbing handles. Inside, a zipper pocket holds knick-knacks, and a key loop keeps those jangly rascals close at hand.
In addition to the quality materials that themselves lend a certain style, the totes come in a cheery black, green, blue, or pink check and range in price from $228 to $328. A reminder to invest in products designed to last a lifestime, as these surely will.
With the Checker Stool ($378) and Green Thumb Deli Rug ($298), d'emploi introduces energy to common household items with a nod to New York City, making each a unique addition to any space. With a checkered top woven of heavy cotton, the Shaker-style Checker Stool features maple wood legs milled in the USA and finished with a stain-resistant and food-safe oil.
The Green Thumb Deli Rug comes in small and medium sizes, and is made for serious foot traffic with a dyed nylon pattern and rubber backing, despite its visual appeal. Bodega sandwich not included.
Rounded out with a large Storage Basket, 3D-printed Porcelain Tumblers, the Green Thumb BIC Lighter, and Embroidered Caps, the collection is a bold and playful testament to enduring everyday design. Snag something for yourself or as a holiday gift. You won't regret it.
