Beyond the pricetag of gear required to camp, many feel intimidated by technical outdoor products and the perceived experience needed to enjoy being in nature. The all-new Two Seconds Easy Tent from French mountain brand Decathlon changes this—with the pull of a ripcord this fully functioning two-person tent can be fully set up in seconds.
Developed over the course of four years with the help of over 160 designers and engineers, this foolproof tent is a genuine marvel made specially for car campers and entry level outdoorists. Though the brand has offered versions of two second pop up tents in the past, none have packed down as compact as this—once packed in the easy-to-use carry case, the size is hardly bigger than a conventional 3 or 4 person tent.
The same pull tab system used to erect the tent also collapses it, making breakdown just as quick and easy as set up. This is especially helpful for cold mornings and those moments when you need to bail on account of surprise fowl weather.
Speaking of, the new design is fully waterproof thanks to a complete, one-piece construction. Though the lack of removable rain fly does reduce exposure to natural light and air, two large side doors with built-in netting make up for lost air flow. The extra dark interior is perfect for sleeping in.
The two-season tent is a genuine innovation. We watched a live demonstration via Zoom, held at Decathlon’s HQ near Chamonix, and were seriously amazed at the ease of setup and break down. No, it’s not a backpacking tent, or even a hike-in camping tent. At 10 lbs, ease of use has been prioritized over all else. But when you’re backing your rig into a campsite, this is about as good as it gets.
Stay tuned for larger sizes and more iterations to drop in season to come. In the meantime, pre-order is now live with a relatively accessible price of $200, with shipping Stateside expected for mid-August.
