The last decade's proliferation of adventure photography has led to a glut of good ways to carry a camera into precarious environments. Photographer Chris Burkard is partly responsible for our widespread obsession with outdoor imagery, and with a new collaboration with Scandinavian bag brand Db, his influence now extends to a unique new photography bag called the Ramverk Pro Sling, too.
Part of a larger, limited-edition collection that includes Iceland-inspired versions of Db's 60-liter Roamer Duffel ($189), 90-liter Hugger Roller Bag ($399), 32-liter Ramverk Pro Backpack ($369), and 80-liter Surf Tote ($79), the Ramverk Pro Sling is a brand new design developed from Db's partnership with Burkard over two years. Marrying Db's experience designing premium travel gear and Burkard's knowledge of what works and what doesn't on a shoot, the Ramverk Pro Sling is a specialized yet highly adaptable bag with a thoughtful set of features for photographers on the move.
Chief among them is a zipper along the bag's bottom that, unzipped, reveals a gusset to expand its inner volume. That allows the Ramverk Pro Sling to accept a new, custom camera insert that's padded, has moveable dividers, and can hold a camera body alongside three lenses. It has a cinch top for security and easy access, too.
With the bottom zipper closed, the sling is slimmer, functioning almost like a tote, and it's not featureless without the camera insert. There's a water bottle sleeve on one side and another opposite with a brushed liner for protecting sunglasses, plus a third for anything else you might need to organize inside. A mesh interior pocket and a hidden, body-side exterior pocket provide more places to stash essentials and valuables when in transit.
Everything you might keep inside is accessible via a double zipper, and while the inside is yellow for visibility in low light, the waterproof, abrasion-resistant exterior is sleek black with minimal branding. "It's meant to be discreet, meant to go through an airport not screaming 'I am a photographer,'" says Burkard in a video.
Like some of Db's other award-winning bags, the Ramverk Pro Sling rolls up for easy stashing in a closet or elsewhere when you don't need it—despite all the features it packs inside—proving its versatility. According to Burkard, "It is basically meant to not only be your everyday camera carry, but also that airport sling, that travel sling, that piece of kit that really never leaves your side."
Db made the Ramverk Pro Sling in a limited run of 500. The bag is available now.
