Brooklyn-based apparel brand Adsum was founded in 2015 to bring both a clean and technical sportswear approach to a grown-up version of streetwear. Past collections have included lightweight down outerwear, thick plaid flannels, and both fleece tops and bottoms. For Spring '21, the brand brings another round of approachable shoulder season staples—a number of which have caught our attention.
The Work Jacket is one such piece that impressed us for its understated style and thoughtful details. A full cotton outer and light poplin lining keeps it breathable while the corduroy collar adds that workwear touch. It’s been said that the tradition of corduroy collars comes from the ability of the material’s wales (the tufted ridges) to channel water away from the wearer’s neck, making it especially applicable for both rainy and sweaty spring days.
The pocket layout is where things get interesting. Up front, two large flap pockets work in tandem with a hidden zip chest pocket. Around back, two wide patch pockets span the width of the jacket with single shank buttons to secure each of them. Though they’re listed by Adsum as duck pockets—as in, the rear pockets you might find on a typical duck hunting coat—we find the design more akin to jersey pockets you’d find on any cycling top.
Regardless of inspiration source, the resulting design is perfect for securing a small U-lock or even a few grocery items... a couple subs/hoagies would hold easily. Sure beats haphazardly dangling a bag off the ends of one’s handlebars!
Complete the whole look with the matching Daisy Bucket Hat and even the “No Thanks, I’ll Bike!” tee, also from the SS21 collection.
