Since 1926, one brand that's little-known in the US has been dedicated to keeping Iceland warm: 66°North. Originally founded to protect Icelandic fishermen and later to outfit Icelandic search and rescue teams, 66°North continues to produce design-driven outerwear and apparel rooted in its founding values of durability, performance, and sustainability.

Though Iceland is synonymous with rugged landscapes and adventure, and much of 66°North's product line reflects this, the brand also makes urban styled outerwear that's equally functional yet more visually refined. Case in point, the recently released Brimhólar Coat, an everyday women’s jacket built with Polartec's premium Power Fill insulation.

Constructed from 100% post-consumer recycled content, the insulation is a prime material for 66°North's wares based on its high warmth-to-weight ratio, durability in the coldest conditions, and sustainable construction elements.

The Brimhólar blends those performance-grade materials—capable of providing warmth to mountaineers, backpackers, and backcountry skiers—with a cut geared more toward commuting and city life.

Essentially, it's a better built, more technical version of a long-hemmed Amazon jacket that took New York City by storm. With a mid-thigh length and high collar, 66°North intentionally designed the Brimhólar to be oversized and extra cozy (worth noting the brand advises sizing down for a closer fit).

Performance and style aren't the only intentions behind the Brimhólar. Focusing on longevity of design, construction, and function, 66°North seeks to inspire patrons to own their gear for as long as possible, and backs up its products with a lifetime guarantee. The company will even repair product throughout its lifespan for a modest fee.

In addition to the Brimhólar Coat, 66°North’s Fall 21 release includes the Öxi jacket and the Vatnajökull vest and jacket, which utilize Polartec's Power Fill insulation but offer different style choices.
