It’s October, the temps have dipped below the 60 mark for the first time in many months, and wetter weather is no doubt on the way (or already there). For obvious reasons, the fall is a favorite time of year for many, but one thing the season screws up is one’s footwear game. It’s often not cold or wet enough yet to wear proper boots, but it’s far from Vans or Jack Purcell weather anymore either. Thus leaving a need for an in-between season shoe, and well, we think Taylor Stitch may have just invented it. The Mariners Boot, made in collaboration with longstanding sneaker brand SeaVees, is a sturdy shoe designed as a workhorse for nasty weather, but handsome enough to be worn around town too.
Made of 15-oz Genuine British Ventile waterproof duck canvas with a vulcanized, herringbone grip sole, the ankle-high boots are both overbuilt and refined at the same time. A gusseted tongue increases weather resistance, and a 6-oz washed canvas liner improves comfort and fit. The natural gum sole (btw mentioning non-marking soles always reminds me of gym class… anyone else?) and antique brass hardware add style points, and a nylon lace ensures longevity.
Toss on a pair of thick wool socks to fortify for the transition to winter and these will surely be your go-to on rainy days for some time to come.
