Everyone deserves to feel comfortable in their workplace, whether that workplace is a home office, a busy restaurant, or a building job site. For construction worker and farmer Mimosa Schmidt, this hasn't always been her experience—she spent her early days of work struggling to feel empowered or even accepted as a woman in the hyper masculine spaces she worked in. Frequently finding herself as the only woman on site, dressed in ill-fitting workwear that left her uncomfortable and uninspired, she had a dream of changing that for anyone who felt overlooked by the expectations of their workplace. And so, SÜK Workwear was born.
Named for the Australian slang term meaning a crybaby and complainer, or a shy, timid, or wimpy person, SÜK (pronounced "sook") looks to reclaim the word used by many to degrade, and instead instill confidence in wearers of the brand.
As a feminine presenting person who's spent time working in male-dominated fields myself, I know how it feels to have my femininity seen as weakness while doing hard work. But being uncomfortable in what you're wearing on top of that feeling? Having to deal with inevitable harassment while you're already feeling isolated? Forget it. That's where SÜK comes in—apparel that inspires all bodies to be their most capable selves, doing any task with "the freedom to look hot while doing it."
The garments are utilitarian but feminine; functional but fitting. Though not the first to make workwear for the non-male-identifying individual, SÜK products are uniquely stylish and well fitting, with a beautiful aesthetic and practical designs. Soft, femme, one-of-a-kind touches—like pleats, well-designed butt patches, and reflective stripes are functional and comfortable.
SÜK Workwear is everything we've wished Carhartt to be, and more.
Standout designs include the Relaxed Workshorts (have you ever seen such beautiful pleats?!), the Reflective Workpant, and the Boilersuit. All of their clothing is made with 100% fair-trade cotton that meets The Standard 100 by OKEO-TEX standards; basically meaning that the fabric is not chemically treated and has no harmful ecological impact.
SÜK also has multiple donation programs they uphold with each purchase, including the One Tree Planted pledge and donating a dollar from every purchase to The Social Studio, a non-profit in Melbourne. All products are produced responsibly in Pakistan—the brand is committed to knowing how and who made their clothes and ensures ethical and ecological production practices for the workers and the garments themselves.
With heavy stress on self-expression and comfort, it’s difficult to think of another brand so committed to making their wearers feel empowered. And we are here for it.
