Styled like fly fishing's very cool final boss, the new Snow Peak x Toned Trout collaboration is everything we imagine fly fishing could be. With expertly tailored apparel and hyper functional gear—like a near-tactical vest and minimalist snap button shirt—the collection celebrates the best part of doing niche outdoor activities: the gear.
Never mind that the best gear won't save you from thee reality of fly fishing, which often follows a familiar cadence of cast, cast, cast, get snagged, cast, untangle line, cast, change flies, move to a new spot, try a different ripple, try a new fly, get skunked, again, maybe over there, oh well it was nice to get outside anyway...
It's this beautiful optimism that gets us. Snow Peak is, as you likely are well aware by now, a long appreciated outdoor outfitter at FM HQ. Toned Trout on the other hand, flies further under the radar. The fishing apparel brand from the Gunmna Prefecture of Japan makes very vibey, technical apparel and equipment for the modern fly fisher—including titanium camp cups, natch. This being the two brands' third collaboration, you can bet the best of both worlds are on display in this capsule collection.
Highlights include the TT Camp Vest ($280), a lightweight, fishing-specific iteration of Snow Peak's famed Takibi vest, the TT Fishing Shirt ($260), a quick-dry layering piece with snap buttons, 4-way stretch, and back ventilation, and the TT Wading Shorts ($190), which feature a similar flexible material, fused patch pockets with drainage holes, and an integrated belt. Not to mention the very slick 2.5 layer rain hat ($110).
As they say, dress for the job you want. And folks, that job is extremely swaggy fish catching. Even if you don't land a single trout (no that foul hook doesn't count), you'll still look like the best angler out that day.
