Out of the Valley, the UK-based design studio that brought the world Holly Water cabin, also makes customizable prefab cabins, greenhouses, and saunas under the name Nomad Cabins to bring the joys of remote living to more.
Six models, including the outbuildings Nomad Greenhouse and Nomad Sauna, are available for customized order. Customers begin the process by selecting one of two cost options-fundamental or premium—and from there, personalization begins with selecting finishes, fixtures, and fittings. Materials, furniture, appliances and stoves, and colour palettes are also available to customize.
Green technologies and local materials are incorporated into each cabin and include options like solar panels, composting toilets, rainwater harvesting and grey water recycling.
Although Nomads are largely designed to be off-grid, they can be hooked up to a power source if that’s more your style. Best of all, Nomads are movable, so say no to putting down roots, and say yes to waking up to a new view whenever you'd like.
After a custom design is finalized, Nomad manufactures the complete structur in England, then delivers and installs your cabin so it's turn-key ready.
While the portable cabins sure get us going, we’re particular fans of the Nomad Sauna, one of which was used for the manufacturer's Quarry Sauna project, and the satisfying simplicity of the Nomad Studio, a 130 sq ft mobile studio perfect as a solo getaway or workspace.
Fair-warning though—Nomad isn’t the most affordable—a sauna model starts at about $30,000 USD and their self-contained cabins land closer to $86,000. (For a DIY option, check out this similar build for 5% of the cost, as these fellow Britts did.)
That being said, the studio has some other cool models up their sleeve, their Nomad Greenhouse being perhaps the most intriguing. Seemingly a relatively new addition, the Greenhouse can be elevated so critters can run underneath and front decking and storage are optional add-ons to make gardening that much more pleasant.
