Ever wanted to live the #vanlife but, like, don’t really want to go all in on a shoddy old vanagon you’ll probably way overpay for anyway? Or prefer a more approachable part-time approach to exploring? Well, the new Poler x Yakima Skyrise Rooftop Tent may be for you.
It mounts onto your already existing roof rack in just 15 mins, and deploys in under five, turning your everyday commuter into a certified #adventuremobile, and wherever you park into your very own private campsite.
The new Poler collab is technically a 3-person tent, though is likely best used for two. Constructed of lightweight yet durable 210D nylon and features a 2.5” wall-to-wall foam mattress, weatherproof rainfly for camping in nasty climes, and mesh panels for optimal star gazing on warm, clear nights.
The retractable aluminum ladder makes getting up to pee at night easy (peeing from the top is not recommended, though would admittedly make for a funny IG story).
All in all, the Skyrise Tent weighs just 115 lbs and tools aren’t required for mounting, meaning you can take it on and off as the seasons go.
As New Yorkers, we’ve long wanted a rooftop tent, and though we’re super good at justifying totally ridiculous purchases (like paying $3k rent for a 1BR or $19 for a cocktail), but the lack of quick access in the NE to public rural roads makes this one make no sense. That said, rooftop tents seem to be everywhere you look in the PNW, and have definitely caught on in CO and UT too—wherever forest service and old fire roads abound—so we’ll just keep living vicariously through our friends out west.
