Sure, the Isuzu Trooper was cool in the 90s (wow googling pics really makes me wish dad didn't sell ours 15 years ago) but still, the top-heavy 4x4 felt like it could tip over with the right gust of wind. A long, long way from the boxy Trooper of yesteryear is the new Isuzu D-Max Arctic Truck AT35, a wholly badass pickup designed especially for the rigors of Icelandic expeditions.
What is actually a collaboration of sorts, Isuzu UK has teamed with Icelandic vehicle engineering specialists Arctic Trucks to produce what they’re calling “the most extraordinarily capable pick-up Isuzu UK has ever put on sale.” Pretty big statement, but having been to Iceland numerous times and knowing very well how gnarly the terrain is—and how gnarly Arctic Trucks is—we’ll going to trust them here.
The heavy-duty 4x4 will be available in both a five-speed manual and a six-speed automatic transmission and features massive 35” tires specifically engineered for off-road surfaces, extensive undercarriage skid plates, 11.4” of clearance, and a payload of 2,200 pounds. Meaning you can drive over lots of shit while carrying a bunch of other shit no problem.
Ok, now we get to the bummer news: The AT35 will only be available in the UK. Lame, we know. Pls send the change.org link our way once you get the petition to import set up. K thanks.
