Let’s set the scene: It’s 1975, and a young Tim Leatherman is driving around Europe with his wife, Chau, in a temperamental Fiat. Frustrated by the car's many mechanical issues and the difficulty of keeping the machine running with only his trusty pocket knife, Tim gets an idea. What if you could carry around a pocket-sized, pliers-based device loaded with useful tools? That initial spark led him to develop his first multi-tool, the PST, and that’s also where the latest release from the Leatherman Garage, the company's product innovation hub, pulls its inspiration from. Dubbed the EUROPE75 in honor of that fateful trip, the new multi-tool (launching today at 12 pm EST/9 am PST) features a simplified suite of helpful tools and Leatherman’s latest tech.
Tool-wise, the EUROPE75 comes with a 2.2-inch knife, spring-action scissors, a wire stripper, and multiple screwdrivers. It also has a bottle opener and a corkscrew—perfect for celebrating a successful repair with some libations. It weighs in at just over four ounces, and measures 3.6 inches long when closed. (Added bonus: It ships with a Leatherman bandana.)
Like the PST, the EUROPE75 features 11 tools in total, but this isn't a remake. Unlike Leatherman’s first offering, the new multi-tool has some key 21st-century innovations. It utilizes the brand’s magnetic FREE technology, which allows users to open each tool with one hand (no picking at them with your fingernails), and each tool locks in place for safety and ease of use. It’s made from stainless steel and has ultra-tough Cerakote handles for lifelong durability.
The EUROPE75 is the fourth release in Leatherman’s ongoing Garage project, an internal incubator for imaginative, one-off products. Like the EUROPE75, previous releases have drawn inspiration from Tim Leatherman’s early experiments with multi-tools.
Want to get this one in your pocket? The EUROPE75 will be available from Leatherman online at 12 pm EST/9 am PST on 7 February 2023—act quickly, as previous Garage releases have sold out in seconds.
