It was only a matter of time before the worlds of game design and architecture collided. After all, there’s not much difference between building a mega-mansion for your Sims and digitally modeling a building in any contemporary 3D architecture program. Well, other than a whole ton of liability, some necessary real-world parameters, and most importantly, a lot less fun. Take it from someone who has spent plenty of hours doing both.
Prefabricated modular housing design is the natural result, such is the case with the recently released HOM3 Cabin by London-based JaK Studio.
Inspired by the beloved game of Minecraft, JaK Studio created HOM3 cabins to be as customizable as possible, with a series of mix-and-match modular units, finishes and materials, foundations, and other intuitive options.
At the moment, the cabins are designed by booking a consultation through the HOM3 website but, excitingly, the studio is also partnering with indie game developers AI Interactive to create an interactive design platform where users will soon be able to design their own HOM3 cabin from the ground up, entirely on their own.
The program is set to be released sometime Summer 2021, so get practicing, folks.
As for the cabins themselves, it seems there are no set rules for a HOM3-make it a mountain cabin, beach shack, or garden shed, the world is your oyster. You can opt to have yours placed on wheels, or have it grounded in the yard. The modular units can be fit together or be separated to adapt to your unique site. And an array of finishes makes the HOM3 the most colorful prefab we’ve seen yet.
According to the studio, HOM3 units are built using 100% sustainable materials sourced from Bosnia and 1-3% of fees go towards a cause of the client’s choosing from JaK’s list of partner charities.
Pre-order for a HOM3 studio is now available globally, however, there is limited space as JaK plans to build just a limited run of models in 2021. Pricing for a 100 sq ft, designed, delivered, and installed HOM3 cabin starts at about $51K.
