Tbh the best part of living in the Northwest is the access to unbelievable nature in nearly every direction. Be it the coast, the Cascades, even the high desert of the eastern part of OR and WA. But where to stay when venturing out? Maybe you're looking to rent a cabin, or how about a treehouse. Glamping as a trend is popping off right now, and for good reason—it's a great way to introduce folks to spending time outdoors without leaving every luxury of home, well, at home. As more popular vacation rentals get booked up months in advance, growing upstart Getaway is here to save the day (err, weekend) with fully equiped tiny houses you can likely rent close to home.
In the Great Northwest we have a couple new options in Postcard Cabins Portland (aka Mount Adams) and Seattle (aka Skagit Valley).
Chances are you’ve heard of Postcard Cabins by now—formerly called Getaway, the micro cabin rental company launched by Harvard Business school graduate and alternative housing enthusiast Jon Staff in 2015 has been featured everywhere from Dwell and Business Insider to television’s Shark Tank (seriously). With 784 cabins spread across 19 "Outpost" locations throughout the USA. Postcard Cabins offers a relatively affordable, and accessible, way to spend a few nights in nature without investing in camping gear—or a mortage.
If there ever was an audience eager to escape to the forest for analog weekend of sustainable living, it’d be Portland. Enter Postcard Cabins Portland. Located just 45 minutes east up the beautiful Columbia River Gorge, on the Washington side of the river near the base of a volcano (Mount Adams, Washington’s second highest peak), the 80-acre property features 32 two-person cabins and eight four-person cabins among ponderosa pine trees and huckleberry bushes.
As one might expect from a micro cabin, the interior amenities are minimalist, but efficient—a kitchenette, composting toilet, and queen-size bed take up most of the 136-200 square-foot space.
A signature “big window” welcomes natural light and blurs the line between indoor and out, encouraging visitors to make the most of their time in the great outdoors. And a lockbox encourages guests to shut down their phones and log off for a weekend offline (yes pls).
Nightly rates for Postcard Cabins Mount Adams near Portland run $119, which includes your own private fire pit and picnic table area, plus access to the property’s many hiking trails. Not bad if you ask us.
