In general we tend to lean more towards all black Cordura and Gore-Tex these days than wool and waxed cotton, but that’s mostly just because many brands working exclusively with natural materials have a hard time escaping a heavy heritage driven aesthetic, resulting in heavy, outdated designs with no business in the outdoors of today. Not Trakke, though.
The Glasgow, Scotland-based pack manufacturer specializes in hardwearing, handmade equipment celebrating functional, British-made materials. All of which can be seen in the new collaboration Trakke x Gather Assynt 17 pack, an exclusive iteration on their best selling pack design.
Gather Outdoors is another U.K. outdoor outfitter, though focused more on the retail side of things. By supporting sustainably produced clothing and equipment from independent brands, and offering limited edition art books, prints, and journals on subscription, Gather aims to support those looking to broaden their horizons outdoors. As such, the collaboration was a no brainer.
The pack itself was inspired by vintage mountaineering equipment, and features a very minimalist design relying heavily on lightweight and waterproof waxed cotton. It’s as simple as can be, with no bells or whistles outside of a slim laptop sleeve and a single interior zipper stash pocket.
In time the pack will take on a distinct look as the waxed cotton wears in. Plus, the collab is limited to just 20 pieces, so don’t sleep on this one if it speaks to you.
