For 50 years Cordura has supplied the world’s most demanding products with a rugged material up to most any task. Few materials—kevlar and ballistic nylon aside—are capable of taking a beating without breaking quite like Cordura 1000D, which is why Best Made recently employed it as the shell on their new SWS Roll Top Duffle line.
Though the New York-based brand has historically favored natural materials, an exception was made in this instance, as the goal of the product was to create something truly hardwearing—something that would legit last the test of time. A “Synthetic with Soul,” as it were.
Adding to the badass-ness of the duffle line are equally purposeful details like YKK Aquaguard waterproof zippers, powder coated zinc alloy buckles, and a 100% cotton twill lining coated with a water resistant treatment. And because finding rouge gear at the bottom of a roll top duffle can be next to impossible in time of low light, the bags are lined with light colored fabric.
The roll top closure was chosen by the designers for two reasons: the design greatly improves flexibility and an expandable cargo space, and because the dry bag-like design further keeps the elements out when cinched tightly. But you already knew that. Either way, consider the SWS Duffle a damn handsome—and surprisingly affordable—alternative to Patagonia’s Black Hole.
