As the weather warms up and we kick off Earth Month, there's no better time to lace up your hiking boots and get outside. Adding to this with a further incentive is the popular hiking app AllTrails, which has committed to planting a tree for every trail activity you and your friends do outside this weekend, 6-7 April. The impressive initiative goes beyond simply encouraging its massive community of over 60 million members to enjoy the great outdoors—it's about making a tangible impact on our planet now and for future generations, too.
So how does it work? Hikers, walkers, trail runners and anyone else using the AllTrails app will simply use the Navigator tool to record their activity. AllTrails will then measure cumulative data from the weekend and, in partnership with global reforestation nonprofit One Tree Planted, will plant a tree for every person who logged activity for at least one hour on the trail. The more AllTrails users get outside, the more trees will be planted—up to 100,000 trees!—contributing to a healthier planet for all. Pretty rad coming from the award-winning app that seemingly everyone is already using.
Of course, if you’re reading this you don’t need a reminder, but the benefits of more trees are undeniable—from increasing oxygen production and removing tons of carbon dioxide to reducing stress among people who spend time in the forest.
Whether you're a seasoned hiker or just starting out, as long as you're a member of the global AllTrails community, you're eligible to join in. And if you’re new to the app, just download AllTrails for free, opt into the initiative by clicking “join in,” and hit the trail using the Navigate feature to record your activity. Don't forget to invite your friends along—the more, the merrier, and the more trees planted.
