Breitenbach Landscape Hotel, 48° Nord, a hotel and spa in Alsace, France features 14 unique cabins and a main lodge amidst a scenic hillside setting. At the center of a Natura 2000 site (natural areas protected within the European Union), the design concept by Reiulf Ramstad Arkitekter intends to make as little impact on its site as possible while embracing the organic flow of the land.

Gräss hytte

Inspired by the Scandinavian simplicity and the "hytte" modular cabin concept, each structure is built from locally sourced, untreated wood with minimal, serene interiors. In ascending order behind the main lodge are four different cabin, or hytte, types-Gräss, Tre, Eføy, and Fjell.

With one floor, the Gräss hyttes are the most accessible and feature large glass sliding doors that open onto a private balcony. Both the Tre and Eføy hytte are towerlike and composed of three and two floors, respectively. One of each is equipped with a private jacuzzi for a lucky couple of guests.

Fjell hytte

Tucked away at the topmost section of the site, the Fjell hyttes can accommodate a group or family. With two terraces, a private sauna and either a four-person jacuzzi or two person nordic bath, the Fjell Hyettes are the most luxurious and private of the line-up. What's more, each relaxing escape is surrounded by their own little grove of trees.

The Alsace region and the village of Breitenbach are known for their vineyards, gastronomy, and relaxed way of life, but there’s plenty of outdoor activities to partake in as well, including skiing, hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, and paragliding.

Breitenbach is also home to a community of organic agriculture, and the village continues to transition towards more sustainable energy sources. In combination with Breitenbach’s local goods, 48° Nord uses produce from their own garden to feed guests at the main lodge.

Rates start at around $215/night
