Like most 4x4 trucks on the street, few scrambler builds ever leave pavement. It's a shame, but it's also just the reality of life. We'd love to be out ripping around on fire roads every few days too, but cmon, who has time (or money) to do that? As such the owner of this Yamaha XS650 commissioned Kevin McAllister of Austin, TX to build a "City Scrambler," a daily rider capable of tearing up industrial zones and back alleys on lunch hour. Working in his spare time McAllister turned a beat up ex-flat tracker into this beaut of a beast.
Using an old XT500 tank and basing the build's aesthetic on the legendary single cylinder, the scrambler received a full engine tear down and rebuild, custom paint across the board (tank included and a heavy-duty skid plate. A purposefully full seat was made to ensure a pleasant ride for more than just the first five miles, while tiny shock-mounted LED lights keep the rear end slim. A hand stitched canvas tool roll fits atop the converted LED Hella front headlamp, but fingers crossed it’s rarely used.
