Levi’s 501 jeans have been a part of the American wardrobe for 150 years. From origins as a utilitarian piece of workwear, 501s have evolved into a fashion mainstay beloved by cowboys, biker gangs, and rap stars—and the everyday people who want to mimic their style.
Now Levi’s is writing the next chapter in the 501 story. In a push to envision a more sustainable future for clothing production, the brand has released the Plant-Based 501 Jean made from 97% plant-based materials, including certified organic cotton, natural dyes, a plant-based patch, and ink made from wood waste (the remaining 3% is made up of metal rivets, some minor strands of polyester sewing thread, and a polyester care label).
Levi's Plant Based 501 Jeans are currently available in two washes for women—light and medium wash, and for men, an indigo wash and a lighter, medium wash. All Plant Based 501 Jeans cost $128.
