Photography has been at the core of Field Mag since we launched in late 2015. Over the past eight years our humble corner of the internet has published over 5,500 film photographs across 200+ photo essays. So it only made sense that sooner or later we would bring those digital files to life in print form. Today, I am excited to announce the release of FM02: WINTER, the film photo zine follow up to our sold out SUMMER edition, with more pages, more photos, and more contributors.
WINTER features 70 pages of 35mm and 120 medium format film photographs from over 35 contributors, plus an exclusive interview with Evan Green, expedition photographer for the first all-Black team to summit Mount Everest. The limited-edition 5.5" x 8.5" photo book is now available!
Front cover photo by Japanese contributor Atsushi Ash Hirano and back cover featuring a self portrait by long time contributor James Barkman. As with SUMMER, Kiana Toossi of Holiday Studio is behind the design of WINTER.
WINTER features the photography of past, present, and future Field Mag contributors, including: Alex Hinson, Ali Boab, Anne Hollowday, Atsushi Ash Hirano, Austen Sweetin, Brad Baldwin, Bryan Fox, Caitlin Fullam, Caley Vanular, Carmel Notley, Christie Fitzpatrick, Elias Carlson, Emily Sullivan, Evan Green, Francois Lebeau, Graham Hiemstra, Hunter Gawne, Ian Durkin, Jade Stephens, Jaka Bulc, Jake Tovar, James Barkman, James Joiner, Joel Hypponen, Joseph Jimenez, LeAnna Simmons, Maddie Hayes, Mark McInnis, Matt Stieb, Natalie Allen Carrasco, Nathanael Araso, Tanner Bowden, Taylor Davis, Taylor Grayson, and Tiffanie Yang.
Though zines traditionally come saddle stitched (or stapled), we went an elevated route for this series, printing, binding, and hand numbering each in New York City. Though it is considerably more expensive to print in the USA, especially in our hometown, we think it's important to support the small businesses at the root of our creative communities.
Rising tides lift all ships, after all. We hope you agree!
FM02: WINTER is now available for $25. Shipping begins 27 January 2024.
