And the award for most difficult collaboration to work into an interesting headline goes to: Carhartt WIP x Pelago Bicycles x Mission Workshop!
But seriously, it’s a rad collab, so here we are. The city cycling-based collection was created to be a near comprehensive kit for getting you from point A to B through whatever elements you may encounter, and consists of a custom porteur style bike, a hefty bag that integrates with said bike, and a range of WIP softwoods including a beanie, jacket, T shirt, 5-panel cap, and work apron. The goal was to create something for the middle-distance rider, yet worthy of a seasoned cyclist. And well, considering Mission Workshop makes technical yet stylish gear for all conditions, Carhartt WIP blends style and workwear, and Pelago is steadily rising as a top bike builder, it seems like a match made in heaven.
The bike itself is a handmade single-speed with front rack, mustache bars, disc brakes, and a handsome toolbox-green paint job. It’s easy to handle and reliable, as any around-town bike should be. As with the entire collaboration collection, it features reflective labels for improved visibility while riding in the city. And while we dig the softgoods, it’s the Freeway Your Mind bag that steals the show, aside from the bike itself of course. The hefty duffel is constructed in San Francisco of sturdy, water-repellent Cordura fabric and features a large main compartment with rolltop closure, two exterior pockets, removable shoulder strap, and a custom fixation system for securing it to your front pizza rack. And yes, a skateboard will fit between the rack and bag.
The collection is set to officially launch in the coming weeks with launch parties in Helsinki, Paris, Boston, LA, and SF. In the meantime keep an eye on Carhartt WIP and Pelago for more details.
